Mark MeyerDirector of Assisted Living HomesMark first started at Hope as an Employee Education Specialist in 2012 after relocating from his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. He holds a master’s degree in education, so this role allowed him to leverage his background and experience and combine it with his passion for helping others. Over the years, he progressed into supervisory roles including the supervisor of Hope’s former supported employment program, and the director of community support services. In 2020, he took a brief hiatus from Hope to support his wife’s company, and he returned in 2024 to reconnect with the relationships he had built and to re-engage with the non-profit sector, finding fulfillment in contributing to a meaningful mission. He now serves as the Director of Assisted Living Homes, in which he manages Hope’s licensed residential environments, oversees network budgets and compliance, and strategizes to ensure effective team formation and home-level supervision. He enjoys mentoring staff, guiding them in their professional development, and removing barriers to help his team deliver essential services as effectively as possible. From his early days at the organization, Mark has embraced Hope’s philosophy that employees should “bring their whole self to work.” Mark is an experienced martial artist and helps run a non-profit karate school in Anchorage. He has had opportunities to integrate this passion into his work by teaching karate classes to people who experience disabilities; one year, he proudly led a group of students to Las Vegas for a karate tournament. He also participates in annual Special Olympics events. Beyond work and in addition to his involvement in martial arts, Mark enjoys spending quality time with his wife and daughter and their miniature schnauzer, listening to live music, and cooking. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Management, with his dissertation focusing on employee retention in non-profit organizations. |
