Key Campaign 2025

Key Campaign 2026
March 18-19, 2026

What is Key Campaign?

The Key Campaign is Alaska’s annual disability advocacy campaign, led by the Key Coalition of Alaska. Each year, the campaign brings together Alaskans with disabilities, family members, providers, staff, and advocates to strengthen disability rights and advance policies that expand opportunity, access, and independence across the state.

At its core, the Key Campaign is about making sure decision-makers hear directly from Alaskans with disabilities. The campaign organizes and elevates community priorities, supports advocates in sharing their lived experience, and builds momentum for practical policy solutions—like accessible and affordable housing, reliable transportation, strong community-based services, shorter waiver waitlists, and inclusive health care and education.

Because Alaska’s communities are diverse and often geographically remote, the Key Campaign also focuses on ensuring advocacy is statewide and representative. The campaign creates clear ways to participate, stay informed, and engage with the legislative process, including opportunities to connect with state leaders, share stories, and support collective advocacy goals.

When you join the Key Campaign, you’re helping open doors to a more accessible Alaska—one where people with disabilities can live, work, learn, and participate fully in community life.

What is Key Coalition?

Key Coalition of Alaska is a non-profit, statewide advocacy organization of people with disabilities and their families, friends and other partner organizations. Their mission, through unified state-wide advocacy, is to promote the dignity, status, and equality of all Alaskans who experience disabilities as valued, contributing participants in a shared community.

The goal of the Key Coalition is to advocate for community-based services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Key Coalition advocates for independent living, equality and disability civil rights, and access to quality mental and physical health care services. Advocates and self-advocates all over the state work year round to educate local lawmakers and community members about issues facing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Local chapters of the Key Coalition meet to plan both state and local advocacy efforts.

How is Hope involved in Key Campaign?

Hope is actively engaged in Alaska's primary advocacy coalitions for disability and mental health. Michele Girault, Hope’s Executive Director, is the Board President of the Key Coalition. The Key Coalition of Alaska brings together primary stakeholders, their families, Care Coordinators, provider agencies, and the staff providing supports to collaborate and advocate for policy and practice changes that will enhance the lives of Alaskans experiencing disabilities.

How you can participate in Key Campaign

If you would like to participate in Key Campaign visits with local legislators, sharing issues that affect you, your family, or someone you know, simply register. To find out who your representatives are and what districts you live in go to www.akleg.gov and scroll all of the way to the bottom right of the page where you will find a box like below that says "Who represents me?" Type in your full physical home address including your zip code and press "Find." The system will then show your local senator and House representative and what districts they represent. These are your representatives and the districts that you live in. This is the information you will need to fill out your registration.

The Key Coalition of Alaska is hosting two webinars to provide an overview of this year's Key Campaign. Presented by Michele Girault, Board President of Key Coalition of Alaska and Hope's Executive Director, you will learn about this year's plans and priorities and how you can get involved in Key Campaign.
