Still Rising
As we look ahead, we carry with us the lessons, relationships, and momentum of this year. Our work never stops—it grows, expands, deepens—and we invite you to remain part of this journey. There are new events to attend, new stories to create, and endless opportunities to stand alongside us in community and solidarity. The movement does not end here. We are still rising—and we hope you will continue to rise with us.

Intentional Neighborhood
Hope continues to partner with families to bring “dreams” to life. One of the most poignant questions a parent asks when their child has a disability is “what will happen to my child when I am no longer here. Our Kenai Intentional Community was a beautiful unfoldment answering that question in a tangible way. For the last several years we have been exploring the development of a third intentional neighborhood , in the Eagle River/ Chugiak area which has led to expanding the concept to also include the Mat-Su Valley.
What is an Intentional Neighborhood?
An intentional neighborhood is a planned community where the physical environment, social supports, and shared values are designed purposefully for mutual support and connection among the people who live there. Unlike a typical neighborhood that grows organically and may or may not meet its residents’ needs, an intentional neighborhood is built around a clear vision for how people will live and thrive together.
The housing is designed with inclusion in mind, so people with and without disabilities can live side-by-side, safely and comfortably. Social connection is built into the layout using green spaces, common gathering areas, and accessible pathways between houses. Supports are nearby and accessible if needed, whether that means assistance with daily living, transportation, or recreational programs. There are opportunities for employment, if desired, including an art gallery and a café/bakery. Most important of all, residents can age in place, giving their families peace of mind. For many parents, the question “What happens when I am no longer able to provide full supports to my child?” is ever present. An intentional neighborhood addresses that concern by offering permanent, life-sharing community homes designed for long-term stability. The residents will be able to remain in their home and community even as their needs change, and their families will know they have stability, relationships, and support even when they themselves are no longer able to care for them.
An intentional neighborhood is not just a place to live—it is a community designed so that people can grow and belong over the course of their lives. For people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, this model provides something so important—a safe and integrated place to call home, with opportunities for independence and meaningful relationships.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming year we will continue to expand the conversation with other families sharing this same dream to build momentum toward site selection and feasibility with partner organizations; community engagement to ensure the village is integrated in broader life; and continued fund-development. We are grateful for the growing network of community partners and supporters who share this vision. Intentional communities represent an important step toward providing Alaskans with disabilities not only a home, but a place of belonging, choice and continuity.

Stay Connected
The story of Hope has never been one of standing still. It has always been a story of progress—of people and communities collaborating, learning, adapting, and standing up for, and with, the disability community. Hope’s mission has endured for more than five decades because people like you continue to believe in what we do, and because we believe in the people we serve. Every program, every home, every project is built on the truth that all people deserve to live a life filled with purpose and belonging.
As long as there is still progress to be made, Hope will keep rising. Our vision for the future is both bold and simple: a world where people with disabilities are seen, valued, and have equal opportunities to live full, meaningful lives. In the coming year, Hope will continue expanding inclusive opportunities across Alaska, strengthening regional supports, enhancing workforce development, exploring new and innovative ways to serve the evolving needs of our community, and further developing partnerships to create a more connected network of care.
We invite you to be part of what’s next. Volunteer. Share our story. Advocate. Give. With every contribution—every hour, every dollar, every voice—a new path opens for people to live with greater belonging.
With every contribution, Hope rises, and together we will rise higher still.
