Take a journey across the globe without leaving the classroom! Around the World is an engaging, interactive course designed to celebrate global diversity through food, music, and cultural presentations. Each week, students will explore a different country or region, learning about its unique customs, traditions, languages, and lifestyles. The class will include:
- Food Tastings: Sample authentic dishes from each culture studied (when possible), exploring theingredients, history, and significance behind traditional meals.
- Music Exploration: Listen to and analyze music styles from various cultures.
- Presentationsand Activities: Participate in or watch presentations, cultural storytelling, art projects, and interactive activities that deepen cultural understanding.
By the end of the course, students will have a broader appreciation of global cultures and a better understanding of how food, music, and tradition shape identity.
Indoor/Outdoor Activities and Fitness classes are held every Thursday, excluding federal holidays, at a cost of $5 per class.

Discovery Center Class Policies
- Our Community Engagement Center classes are only available for current recipients of Hope’s Discovery Center waivered services. If the participant is not a current recipient, they will need to contact our New Services team before they are eligible to sign up for classes.
- Each class requires a minimum number of participants. If enrollment is insufficient, we may cancel, reschedule, or modify the class.
- All class payments are generally nonrefundable. However, if a class is canceled due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, payments will be credited toward future sessions or other classes. In cases of extenuating circumstances, participants may contact our team to discuss refund options.
- Class fees vary based on activities and materials but are averaged for consistency, with occasional adjustments to balance program costs.
- Please review the Lesko Discovery Center's Behavioral Expectations for All Group Service Recipients. Understanding and agreeing to these guidelines is essential for participation in our weekly classes and help ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
- Please note that we have accounted for all federal holidays on which Hope's main campuses are closed. No classes will be held on these recognized holidays:
- January 1: New Year’s Day
- Third Monday in January: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Last Monday in May: Memorial Day
- July 4: Independence Day
- First Monday in September: Labor Day
- November 11: Veterans’ Day
- Fourth Thursday in November: Thanksgiving Day
- December 25: Christmas Day
