Hope has always relied upon the kindness and compassion of the community to assist them in meeting the needs of the people who choose its supports. The support that began on the feet of 11,000 people in 1970, with the first Walk for Hope, continues today in the hearts and in the minds of hundreds and hundreds who annually support Hope’s ongoing endeavors.
Volunteerism is alive and well at Hope, offering people the opportunity to lend a helping hand in a variety of ways.
If you’re a people person, go getter, organizer or a hands-on sort, there are plenty of opportunities to share your talents at Hope. Hosting four major events a year, plus all the little stuff in between, requires lots of additional people power to make them successful. Volunteer opportunities include anything from being a committee chair to serving hot dogs at the Walk & Roll for Hope to soliciting donations for the auctions to driving the snack cart at the Hope Golf Classic.

Helping Hands
If being hands on and working with others is your passion, there are opportunities to do so within Hope’s recreation programs. These programs include Camp Cara, Hope Studios, Actabilitiesand the Subsistence and Outdoor Program. More information is available on each of these by clicking on the program name.
There are also projects throughout the year that could use a group of helping hands. As Hope owns over 80 homes there is much to do outside of major maintenance projects, such as painting, landscaping and minor repairs. This is a great opportunity of service groups or companies to get involved by taking on a home project that fits within their abilities and schedule. If you are interested in this type of volunteerism, please e-mail developmentoffice@hopealaska.org .
Hope has created partnerships with several universities throughout the United States and other countries to support students in fulfilling internships and practicum programs for their degree requirements. Other students participate because it’s an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the field of disabilities while taking in Alaska and what it has to offer.
