The
philosophy of Inclusion is pervasive throughout all aspects of
Hope Community Resources, Inc.'s (Hope's) services. Inclusion
means to include, to be a part of, to embrace, to take in, and
to be comprised of.
Inclusion
begins with the understanding that all people are gifted. Giftedness
is actually the human trait that enables us to be participants
in community building.
Each
person's gift, or contribution to community, is whatever we are,
whatever we do or whatever we have that allows us to create opportunities
to do things together with other community members.
Our
presence is the most important gift we bring to the human community.
Presence is essential in all opportunities and interactions related
to everything that is meaningful in our lives.
Recognizing
that all people are gifted creates the need for us to organize
our homes, schools, workplaces and other establishments differently.
This recognition has given birth to the inclusion concept.

In
the past, we became efficient at separating people into classifications
of supposed sameness. Now we are struggling to build our community
life up from the foundation of our enriching differences.
Hope's
services actively pursue inclusive lives for individuals with
disabilities by connecting and involving them in community activities
and relationships. Whether individuals are supported with one-on-one
staff through Day Habilitation services or within a small group,
efforts are focused on discovering who a person is, their likes
and dislikes, and their vision for themselves in the future. Individuals
are assisted in mapping a path to realize their dreams through
inclusive lifestyles.
