Hope
Community Resources, Inc. (Hope) and the Waterford Institute
of Technology (WIT) in Waterford, Ireland have developed a
voluntary service program that allows associates of Waterford
to provide community services in Alaska during the winter
holiday season by supporting Hope in its efforts to provide
services to people experiencing a developmental disability.
This project is one of Hope's delights as it promotes the
exchange of cultures while providing critical assistance and
companionship to people who choose support from Hope.
In conjunction
with the Waterford Voluntary Program, 4 other Irish colleges have come
on board with Hope's International Summer Work Program. These include
Social Work students from Sligo IT, Psychology students from U.C.G, Recreational
Health students from Tralee IT and Psychology students from U.C.D.
Volunteers
from WIT assist Hope in numerous ways. This assistance includes
performing activities associated with daily living and basic
community life. Volunteers also make it possible for individuals
to continue their involvement in a variety of inclusionary
activities and take advantage of special, seasonal events.
