"You think you know everything, but you don’t," states 17 year Hope employee, Kelly Newman, who is enrolled in the 2009 Certified Direct Support Professionals (CDSP) program.  The program, which is a collaborative effort between service provider agencies, the U.S. and State Departments of Labor, and the Center for Human Development‑UAA provides a means for employees working in direct support to earn certification as a Direct Support Professional.

When asked why she chose to take this course, Kelly responded “For all the years I’ve worked at Hope, I wanted something to actually show for it.  The possibility of raises and promotions weren’t the reason, a nice bonus yes, but not my motivation.”  Kelly is impressed with the program and how much she is learning from it.  She states, “It’s been an all around great experience.  I’ve been able to handle the work without it taking away from my job or my family.  I look forward to each new class and being able to apply what I learn to my daily work.”
